Child Trafficking ADULT STATISTICS

GENERAL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS

* In 1999 there were 46 criminal indictment for trafficking. A total of 16 cases went to trial; the courts sentenced one person to 6 months and another to 1 year in prison. (US Dept. of State, Trafficking in Persons Report, July 12, 2001)

* Slovenia is a transit and destination country for trafficking; most victims are women trafficked into sexual exploitation from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova, Russia, Romania, and Bulgaria through Slovenia to Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The specific offences were: 6 cases of murder (10.26% of all murders), 53 cases of serious assault (13.66% of all cases), 8,984 cases of all types of theft (30.19% of all cases), 4,679 cases of aggravated theft (34.03% of all cases), 167 cases of robbery and violent theft (38.71% of all cases), 4,484 cases of breaking and entering (33.67% of all cases), 71 cases of theft of motor cars (10.37% of all cases), 4,162 cases of other theft (27.17% of all cases), 57 cases of fraud (1.51% of all cases), 163 cases of counterfeit currency offences (4.56% of all cases), 131 cases of drug offences (13.29% of all cases).
