MEET A CHILD
Eugene, 13 is a fruit-picker in a town in Chile's central valley. She and many children who work along with her in the fields are continuously exposed to toxic pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, many of which are banned. They are not provided with protective clothing & adequate work implements. The pesticides often cause nausea. Despite all these problems, they are forced to work long hours.

In 1998 “Operation Cathedral” exposed a link between a Chilean paedophile network and the international pornography trade. This network involved 20 countries, including a provider in Chile.

There are reports of children as young as 7 years old who are exploited through child prostitution and sex tourism in Chile, mainly in the four largest cities of the country: Conception, Temuco, Valparaiso and Santiago.

Chile is reportedly a sex tourism destination, although the national tourist authorities have tended to deny the existence of this problem or to minimise its extent.

In June 2003, a man from the United States was arrested in a Chilean airport for having in his possession child pornographic material.
