| One report says that children from Mali are taken to Ivory Coast via Burkina Faso, which is both supplier and transit point for child labour. It is also reported that in most of the regions of West Africa, children as young as 8 years are taken from the rural areas to towns and cities to work as domestics. Many of them work for over 12 hours a day and are subjected to mental, physical and sexual abuse. |

UNICEF Burkina Faso reports that there is no data or reliable information on the state of CSEC in Burkina Faso. UNICEF says that the problem exists to some extent because once in a while there are reports in the local press on child prostitution, child pornography and pimping. |

CHILD SOLDIERS
There were no reports of under-18s in the government armed forces.
But the government supported the Movement patriotique de Côte d’Ivoire (MPCI), Patriotic Movement of Côte d’Ivoire, an armed group that used child soldiers and abducted women and girls into sexual slavery in neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire. It was not known whether Burkinabè nationals allegedly recruited by the MPCI included under-18s. |
