Announcement for the position of Executive Director
Global March Against Child Labour, a worldwide coalition of civil society organizations, including NGOs, Teachers Unions and other Trade Unions seeks an experienced Executive Director. Global March is working to mobilise worldwide efforts and support to protect and promote the rights of all children to be free from economic exploitation and to receive a free, quality public education.
Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for all executive functions of Global March (GM). He/she will have an overall responsibility for the smooth running and accountability of GM. This includes all Governance, Programme, fund raising, finance and administration, including staffing, communications and reporting. The International Secretariat, the International Advocacy Office and regional coordinators also comes under his/her coordination and direct supervision.
He/she reports to and implements decisions of the Global March International Council (IC).
He/she ensures the Elected Officers (President, Vice-Presidents) are informed at all times, and reports to the President of GM in urgent situations.
He/she coordinates the roles of the GM Foundation (legal entity) the elected IC, and the executive functions of the GM secretariat.
His/her main tasks are:
- Coordinating the various bodies and work of staff at all levels, global and regional;
- Liaising with international organizations, agencies and institutions;
- Providing an advisory role to the IC and member organizations on policy and strategy
Specific Roles and Functions:
- While specific responsibility for day to day Finance and Operations management lies with the Director of Operations, the Executive Director is accountable to the IC and the funders for the use of funds and the overall operations of GM.
- He/she is responsible for fund raising and liaison with funders, including building and maintaining relationships, identifying new funds, and accounting for funds received and used.
- He/she is responsible for liaison and building partnerships and alliances with international governmental and non-governmental organizations; with international organizations of workers, employers, others; UN agencies; international institutions, networks, coalitions and campaigns.
- He/she supports the work of the President and GM in the Global Campaign for Education, Global Task Force.
- He/she organizes at regular intervals a General Assembly
- He/she develops a strategic plan to achieve the goals of GM
- He/she coordinates global and regional advocacy and programme initiatives
- He/she cultivates and coordinates the active involvement of GM members in specific projects, events, initiatives, as well as coordinating actions by GM members that contribute to the overall achievement of GM goals
- He/she provides advisory role to IC and members on policy, strategy and programme.
- He/she ensures the membership base is maintained and expanded.
Profile
The Executive Director will be highly motivated, well-organised, articulate person, able to work under pressure, able to manage time and work priorities and with writing and fundraising experience. He/she must have coordinated campaigns, lobbying and advocacy activities at national and/or international levels.
The profile for this position includes the following:
- Substantial international experience in the international arena, in the trade union movement, and/or international agencies or NGOs;
- Relevant experience on education issues and in civil society, in teaching or other professions working with children, and in development including Millenium Development Goals and poverty eradication;
- Appropriate level of education in academic qualifications;
- A strong personal commitment to the ideals of Global March;
- Excellent inter-personal skills;
- Capacity to engage in advocacy in the international community;
- Able to represent GM to funders, partners and international organizations and at fora;
- Outstanding managerial skills and the ability to motivate colleagues;
- Excellent communication skills;
- An excellent command of English, and proficiency in either French or Spanish.
The Location of position and salaries are subject to discussion.
