A TWO WEEKS ACTION ABOUT CHILDREN RIGHTS
Between 16th and 28th of November, Global March France together with 11 other NGOs have received 663 school children coming from 34 classes. Following a half hour presentation of the problem of child labour and Children Rights, groups of 10 children had to work like young journalists and prepare the first page of a news paper : " The Messenger of The Children". Each group had to focus upon one of the Children Rights : Education, Identity, Expression, Family, Protection, gather information from the exhibition of charts made by the associations, and finally write the strongest message they could to fight against the problems identified.
In parallel, other children between 14th and 18th have worked in various colleges in and around Toulouse during two months and a debate took place with all of them on November 20th to present their conclusions and recommendations. |
Like every year since 2004, Marche Mondiale France organises various events around the 20th of November. With the collaboration of other ONGs like Amnesty International, Handicap International, UNICEF, and other National Associations, activities are planned from November 15th to 28th. Most of them will take place this year in a Cultural Center in Toulouse : Centre Alban Minville where an exhibition of charts presenting all aspects associated to child labour is open every day.
- Groups of children 8 to 13 years old and their teachers will visit the exhibition over the 2 weeks. The theme developed this year is "Children from here and abroad : Rights and Education". They have to answer various questions and finally write a paper gathering the information about child labour they have kept through the exhibition. A newspaper will be issued at the end and dispatched among the schools.
- Two debates are planned on the 20th: one in the afternoon with parents animated by Barbara Walter, President of the COFRADE (COnseil Francais des Associations pour les Droits de l'Enfant) on the subject : "Children Rights and what about Parents". The second one is planned in the evening with children between 14th and 18th about the protection of children.
- In parallel, an initiative has started in September at national level supporting debates in schools among children between 14th and 18th in various regions of France. The most significant debates are elected at the level of each region and will be presented at a national final round which will take place the 10th of December in Paris at the National Assembly of Deputies. This initiative is managed by COFRADE at National level. Forty children from Toulouse are expected to participate at the final round in Paris.
