Convention
182 , a legally binding agreement between countries to
prohibit the worst forms of child labour is a benchmark
for the international efforts to end the worst forms of
child labour.
It was the first time in the history of ILO that the Convention
received unconditional support and child labour was finally
acknowledged as a global concern. This was mainly achieved
because Global Marchers left indelible marks not only
in their mind but in their hearts as well. One can define
the emotional moment also as a reaffirmation of their
commitment to end child labour. All governments, trade
unions, employers organisations are accountable for the
implementation of the Convention.
In less than three years, 132 countries had ratified the
convention, and today the tally is 150 countries, making
it the fastest ratified convention in ILO's 82 year history,
clearly demonstrating that support for the movement against
abusive child labour is growing rapidly throughout the
world.
