Child
Labour Coalition exists to serve as a "national
network for the exchange of information about child
labour; provide a forum and a unified voice on protecting
working minors and ending child labour exploitation;
and develop informational and educational outreach to
the public and private sectors to combat child labour
abuses and promote progressive initiatives and legislation".
Representing
over sixty organizations in the United States, CLC members
include educators, health groups, religious and women's
groups, human rights groups, consumer groups, labor
unions, and child labor advocates. The CLC is a national
group that works to end child labor exploitation in
the United States and abroad and to protect the health,
education, and safety of working minors.
Formed
in 1989, the association seeks to influence public policy
on child labour issues, advocate for better enforcement
of child labour laws and regulations, create consciousness
among the public regarding child labour exploitation,
promote education for child workers and to protect the
youth from hazardous labour.
