Pope Remembers Exploited Children in Both Poor and Rich Countries

March 25, Vatican City

The Holy Father in a special word of encouragement for the participants of the Global March Against Child Labour expressed the hope that, "this March would contribute to creating a greater awareness of this problem, so that adults may not be deprived of rightful employment, and children not be deprived of invaluable years of growth".

An EFE (Spanish wire service) report published today (March 25th, 1998) with a Vatican City dateline entitled, "Pope remembers exploited children in both poor and rich countries"  it states:

"El Papa denounced the margination of physically handicapped children; unscrupulous contractors who exploit child labour where children enter economic circles at a very early age and where the children's "house" is the street or social centers; who are victims of pornography, prostitution, or clandestine organ transplants and other types of "horrible exploitation"."
