Since
the children came from varied backgrounds and
countries, it was important to ‘break
the ice’, to encourage free uninhibited
interaction. It was important to ensure that
the children are comfortable with each other,
so that they could voice their concerns and
opinions freely and justly. To bring them all
on a single platform, the children participated
in the following group activities:
Group
I :Still Image
The
children themselves displayed a montage of still
images showcasing the plight of child labourers
in different sectors and other truths of the
society. This was after continued deliberations
and activities. The children thoroughly enjoyed
the session and came up with real-life and touching
performances. The images had a strong visual
presence.
Group
II :
Music
The
children made their own multi-lingual international
song against child labour. This was a fun activity
and the activities, which led to the composition
of the song, were carefully planned with the
children to help them express their feelings.
Having set up a rhythm of movement and sounds,
the children were encouraged to add on some
lines in their own languages. The song was improvised,
written and produced by the children themselves.
These budding music composers and songwriters
showed immense talent, enthusiasm and potential.
Group
III :
Painting
Children
in this group made paintings and installations
exploring the realities of their lives, their
homes, families, aspirations and tribulations.
Children themselves choose the themes they wanted
to explore and came up with numerous artistic
paintings and installations, that not only threw
light in to their lives but also brought forward
their spirit of hope and freedom.
Through
these different group activities, children selected
Master Amarlal as their representative to chair
the inaugural session in the evening.
